Shea Moisture Fix for Dry Hair

Shea Moisture Fix for Dry Hair

Shea Moisture Fix for Dry Hair

I recently used two Shea Moisture hair products that I have been dying to try for some time now.

As a young Egyptian woman growing up in the UK, I have always had the struggle of making my hair look as “pretty” and sleek as my white girlfriends. I was always amazed (and low key jealous) at how effortlessly their hair would just fall into place and do what it’s meant to do every time they stepped out of the shower and styled it. Whilst I had to deal with uncontrollable frizz, waves that weren’t quite curls, and hair that couldn’t be tamed for more than a few hours.

As I grew older, however, I learned to embrace my Middle Eastern roots and love what I once hated about myself - including my unruly hair. I quickly discovered that the thickness and length of my hair was a huge blessing and it allowed me to style my locks in ways my polished caucasian friends couldn’t. I quickly discovered that all it took was a good hair regimen along with a few top-quality products to not only get the hair that I wanted - but hair that I absolutely loved.

This took some research along with some trial and error, but I can safely say it’s been a fun and enjoyable journey of discovery. I had always heard of great things about Shea Moisture from my friends and various beauty bloggers, but always thought it was too pricey and ‘out-there’ to get invested in (along with being a committed Cantu girl).

But I recently decided to take the plunge and try a couple of hair masks from two of their most famous collections.

Shea Moisture boasts no sulfates, parabens, phthalates, paraffin gluten, propylene glycol, mineral oil and quite a few more! I knew by the mouthful of harmful ingredients they didn’t have in their products that this was totally worth a go. Since I nailed my weekly hair regimen a few years ago, a solid deep conditioner has always been a must in keeping my hair hydrated and my curls looking alive, so I was more than ready to see if these particular products were up to the job.

First up, I gave the Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque from the Raw Shea Butter Collection a go and OH EM GE where do I start....

Firstly, the smell is absolutely divine with natural ingredients like Argan Oil and Shea Butter in the mix, it brings both deep nourishment as well as a great smell.

The texture is thick, creamy and easy to apply onto damp hair. I washed out the masque after approximately 30 minutes - take a look at the fabulous results….

My hair looked and felt deeply conditioned and my curls had so much extra elasticity. It gave my hair a boost of nourishment that left it looking so healthy with a hint of shine that I usually find hard to achieve with other hair products. I used it after cleansing with OGX shampoo and conditioner and styled with my usual Cantu curl cream. I definitely felt a difference from using this masque in comparison to others and knew it did what it said on the tin.

Overall I give this deep treatment masque 5* and would highly recommend it for any curly-haired queen out there.

Next up, I gave the Shea Moisture Dandruff Control Masque from their African Black Soap collection a try - I was particularly excited to give this one a go having heard amazing things about this collection with how popular the African Black Soap bar is amongst consumers that have tried it and raved about the amazing results.

Given how thick my locks are, I do struggle quite a bit with a dry, itchy scalp that can be susceptible to white flakes - especially in hot weather, so I was beyond excited to see if this product would make the difference I’ve been looking for. True to form it certainly didn’t disappoint as you can see from my before and after pics here.

The mask is super lightweight, making it easy to apply to my scalp and evenly distribute along the surface of my roots and down to the tips. It felt instantly refreshing when applied. I was ecstatic with the results as my hair looked and felt exfoliated with no more white flakes in sight! The rest of my locks also felt extremely nourished with an extra feel of bounce. I would give this product another 5* and definitely recommend it to anyone struggling with a dry, itchy scalp and wanting to get rid of stubborn white flakes.

Both of these products came through and provided me with the results I was hoping for. Also what I once thought was an expensive product is well worth the price tag given the great quantity that comes in each tub to last me a good few weeks!

As I predicted, these Shea Moisture masques did not disappoint with their incredible results and are two products that I will be incorporating into my new weekly regiment going forward to give my curls the TLC they need and deserve.
